Where do I take out my own health insurance?

If you work in the Netherlands, you have to take out health insurance with a Dutch health insurer. You can decide on a health insurer of your choice. All health insurers must accept you for basic insurance cover.

Healthcare in your country of residence

Do you want to make use of healthcare in your country of residence? For example, are you going to a GP or to hospital? Then ask your Dutch health insurer for an S1/106 document. You can use this document to register with a health insurance fund in your country of residence. You will then receive the same care as other residents who are insured in your country of residence.

Tip

Do you work in both the Netherlands and your country of residence? If so, you can find out from the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) which country you need to be insured in.
