Why the CAK?

If you're insured in the Netherlands and your family have no or little income of their own,  the Netherlands is also responsible for the healthcare costs of your family. They are then insured through the CAK.

You work in the Netherlands, but live with your family abroad. Because you work in the Netherlands, you have Dutch health insurance. You need to insure your family members through the CAK.

Healthcare contribution

You pay a healthcare contribution for basic healthcare for your family members in the country where they live. And if they live in an EU/EEA Member State, Switzerland or the United Kingdom, they are also insured for basic healthcare in the Netherlands and medically necessary care in a number of European countries.
