You live and are insured in the Netherlands, but your family members live in another treaty country. In that case, you need to insure your family members through the CAK. On this page, you can find out what the conditions are and how to organise this.

Do you have health insurance through the CAK? And do you live in an EU/EEA Member State, Switzerland or the United Kingdom? Then you are also insured in the Netherlands.

Do your family members live in an EU/EEA Member State, Switzerland or the United Kingdom? Then they are also insured in the Netherlands. This covers all the healthcare included in the basic package.

With the EHIC from the CAK, you and/or your family members are entitled to reimbursed care in the Netherlands, the other EU/EEA Member States, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.

You pay a healthcare contribution for basic healthcare in the country where you live. And if you live in an EU/EEA Member State, Switzerland or the United Kingdom, you are also insured for basic healthcare in the Netherlands and medically necessary care in a number of European countries.
