These questions concern an amendment to Annex XI of European Regulation No 883/2004. This amendment is expected to take effect on 1 November 2026. From that date, if you are on early retirement in an EU/EEA country or Switzerland, you will no longer be entitled to health insurance through the CAK.

You pay a healthcare contribution for basic healthcare in the country where you live. And if you live in an EU/EEA Member State, Switzerland or the United Kingdom, you are also insured for basic healthcare in the Netherlands and medically necessary care in a number of European countries.

Do you have health insurance through the CAK? And do you live in an EU/EEA Member State, Switzerland or the United Kingdom? Then you are also insured in the Netherlands.

Paying by direct debit is convenient. This way, you always pay on time and you don’t have to transfer the amount manually yourself. You don’t have to do anything.

Good news: the new European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is coming soon! Everyone receives the card automatically, so there is no need to call us. As long as we have your address details on file, we will handle the rest. Please only contact us if you have not received the new card by December.
